The first issue of the UIF's newsletter has been published. It contains a brief outline of the Unit's main activities and a summary of the data on the Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) received in the second semester of 2018 (more details can be found in the newsletter's statistical attachment).
In 2018 the UIF received 98,030 STRs, a 4.5 per cent increase compared with 2017. There was a significant rise in reports pertaining to the financing of terrorism, which for the first time surpassed 1,000 units.
A total of 48.687 STRs were received in the second semester, a significantly higher number than that registered in the same period the previous year (9.1 per cent).
There was an increase in reports on transactions that took place in Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Sicily and Puglia.
